Professor Zhou Jiannan is now Chairman of International Rubber Research and Development Board. He graduated as an English major from the Hainan Normal University in 1983 and from Guangdong Second Normal University in 1987, and received a diploma from South China University of Tropical Agriculture in 1996 in rubber agronomy and a master degree in Agricultural Extension in the Field of Crops. Zhou Jiannan started his involvement in natural rubber industry in 1988 when he worked at the Sci-Tech Information Research Institute under South China Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences which was renamed Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences in 1994, disseminating information of rubber science and technology through journals and translation services. He made his first debut as a speaker in Singapore in 1996, giving presentation on natural rubber industry in China at the International Rubber Market at the special invitation of the organizer. He has since attended numerous rubber conference and workshops, delivering presentations and chaired sessions of the conferences. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 papers and monographs. He was promoted to Chief of the Foreign Affairs of CATAS/South China University of Tropical Agriculture in 1999 and Chief of CATAS Division of International Cooperation in 2007. He served as deputy director in CATAS Rubber Research Institute in 2010 and has since taken responsibility of international cooperation and exchange of the institute, acting as CATAS representative to the IRRDB as a Board member and a member of the Directors and Executive Committee. He was elected as IRRDB vice chairman in 2016 and as IRRDB Chairman in 2018.
